Eurovision

I had heard the term "Eurovision" ever since I started checking out blogs. But up until now, I had no idea what Eurovision actually was.

Eurovision is simply a pop song contest, which pits member-countries against each other. The competition is televised and gets HUGE ratings in Europe and beyond. This has been going on since 1956 - and past winners include Abba, Celine Dion, Katrina and the Waves, and Lulu.

I had no idea how big of a deal this all was - until Dust Bunny Marker did a Eurovision post on his blog featuring out-gay Mexican-American living in Germany, Oscar Loya...

Hola Papi! The adorable Loya sang vocals for this year's German entry - Alex Swings Oscar Sings. When I saw THE VIDEOS on Marker's blog, I just had to find out more about Eurovision. Check it out - but be warned, it is cheesetastically and fabulously "European". To see this year's winner (Norway), go HERE.

It is such a shame that we only have the relatively tame American Idol here in the states, while Europe has the EXTRAVAGANZA that is Eurovision. Color me jealous.

I have an idea: maybe the United States could compete next year! We'll send over Adam Lambert and the entire cast of RuPaul's Drag Race. They might as well send us the trophy (or whatever it is they give away) now...
