Afternoon Flashback: Doug E Fresh & Slick Rick

Please indulge me whilst I sashay down Memory Lane a bit...

I began my 6 (count em!) years at Penn State during the fall of 1985. Around that same time, hip-hop pioneers Doug E Fresh (AKA "The Human Beat Box") and Slick Rick (AKA "MC Ricky D") released a single with The Show on one side, and La Di Da Di on the other.

That first semester, my friend Alan would introduce me to the joys of these two tracks and other early hip hop. Other (AKA "whiter") dorm-mates would introduce me to classic rock like Pink Floyd ("Comfortably Numb" became our unofficial anthem); and others to bands like the Violent Femmes and Depeche Mode. But, I must say, hip-hop was the most fun - so when my friends and I got drunk (which was often) The Show and La Di Da Di were played loudly and repeatedly. And even the white guys rapped along.

FYI for you young Bitches - these songs were contained on something called a RECORD, which had to be played on a machine called a TURNTABLE. These "turntables" were made out of Dinosaur bones, Model T Ford parts, and old milk churns - just so you know ...

Model/Rapper/Producer - Brandon Carter

Brandon Carter, 28, primarily focuses on his flourishing music career these days - but his modeling career has been extremely successful as well.

Side Note: I've had a few pics of Brandon on my computer for quite some time, so I decided to look for a few more in order to create a post. During my internet photo search, I came across a Brandon Carter blog post from a blogger named ... wait, let me think ... DAVIDDUST! Sure enough, I featured Brandon back in September of 2008 and completely forgot (getting old sucks). You can check out that post HERE.

Wrestling Singlet

A wrestling singlet (or simply singlet) is a one-piece, tight-fitting, colored uniform, usually made of spandex, lycra, or nylon, used in amateur wrestling. The uniform is tight fitting so as not to get grasped accidentally by one's opponent, and allows the referee to see each wrestler's body clearly when awarding points or a pin.

"I have never seen a wrestling match or a prize fight, and I don't want to. When I find out a man is interested in these sports, I drop him."

Pucker Up

Don't Bury Granny ...

...keep her in your gun cabinet until you can shoot her into an intruding burglar! From The Daily What:

For a mere $1,250, the Alabama-based ammunition manufacturer Holy Smokes will help you preserve the memory of a late loved one by shoving their remains into “100 rounds of rifle ammunition, 250 shotshells, or 250 pistol cartridges, in the caliber/gauge of your choice.”
On their official site, Holy Smoke — a company started by two state law enforcement officers — talks up its product’s multiple benefits: It fulfills “a need for an individual’s choice” in how he/she is “remembered or celebrated”; it offers a low-cost alternative to burial services; and it carries “a much smaller ecological footprint” than “most of the current funeral interment methods.”

News: Pusha T And Consequence Beef

After rapper Consequence took shots at him on his diss track "The Plagiarists Society," Pusha T has begun pushing back. The Clipse rapper took to the air waves the past two days and fired a few jabs at his former G.O.O.D. Music associate.

After one of the hosts of Chicago's 107.5 WGCI The Morning Riot radio show suggested he'd like to see a rap battle between Pusha and Consequence, P was incredulous.

“Really? You’re like the first person to ever say that. I don’t ever think anyone’s wanted to see Consequence,” he joked. “Never no radio personality, DJ has ever said they want to hear Consequence!”

In a subsequent interview, on the same station, Ziploc P suggested that a beef with Cons would be beneath him.

"To me, as it stands right now, it’s so funny. Me and ‘Ye have never talked about it. Never, not once. That in itself should just tell you how serious it is. It’s really not. But it’s not an inside thing because he’s not inside. He’s outside."

Pusha left the door open for a possible retaliation on wax, but said he wouldn't want to get into a big war of words.

"I’m just an artist, so I have fun. When I write, I write from my soul. If it happened to come up in my mind and it made good sense and it felt right, I might," he said.

"But a go-back-and-forth between me and him, it’s not right. You can’t get anything out of it,” he concluded. “People are disrespectful. What can you say?"

So word got back to Consequence and he isn't too happy with the way Pusha T has been talking about him in interviews, so the former G.O.O.D. Music rapper and former A Tribe Called Quest affiliate called into Chicago's 107.5 WGCI radio this afternoon to get a few things off his chest.

Addressing his latest nemesis, Cons called Pusha the weaker emcee and suggested he was scared to challenge him directly

"Lyrically he can't compete with me," Cons said. "That's why he's doing all the smoke and mirrors."

But it's not just Pusha who Consequence considers to be inferior the Queens native declared himself the best and most talked about lyricist in hip hop.

"I'm probably the best pure lyricist in hip hop and in music right now," he asserted. "Right now, I'm the most talked about commodity in hip hop."

Cons responded to Pusha T's allegations that no one is checking for his music by reminding listeners that he co-produced the Beyoncé single "Party." He also said that Kanye doesn't talk to Pusha about him because he's just using the Clipse rapper.

"He's just worker," Cons said. "He was jet fuel for Pharrell Williams, and now he's jet fuel for Kanye West."

When asked why he decided to speak out against Kanye in recent months, while other lesser known G.O.O.D Music artists have kept silent, Consequence said he was just being true to himself.

"It's just the dynamic that lives within me," he said. "Am I the kind of man who stands up for himself? Yes."

At the end of the interview, Consequence debuted a song on which he addresses his beef with G.O.O.D. Music titled "Straighten It Out."
