Dance Floor Flashback: Liberty City - Some Lovin'

If you went to a gay dance club in the early 90's, chances are you heard Murk/Liberty City's song "Some Lovin".  A lot.

This little ditty immediately takes me back to the many Saturday nights I spent on the dance floor of the Roxy.  Actually, I spent more time at the Roxy's bar, in the bathrooms, and upstairs in the Crystal Room, but that's for another post...

The Incredible Journey of Erin Davies and Her Car

I saw this story over the weekend about out lesbian Erin Davies and the amazing journey she has taken since her car was spray-painted with anti-gay graffiti in Albany, NY.  I was really surprised to find that she appeared at the small college in my PA hometown as a part of the third annual "Gay-Straight Alliance Leadership Summit"!  Perhaps the small conservative town I remember IS evolving after all.

Here is Erin's story, from her website:

On the 11th Annual National Day of Silence, Erin Davies was victim to a hate crime in Albany, New York. Because of sporting a rainbow sticker on her VW Beetle, Erin's car was vandalized...

Despite initial shock and embarrassment, Erin decided to embrace what happened by leaving the graffiti on her car. She took her car, now known worldwide as the "Fagbug," on a 58-day trip around the United States and Canada. Along the way, Erin discovered more serious hate crimes, had people attempt to remove the graffiti, and experimented with having a male drive her car. After driving for one year, Erin decided to give her car a makeover.

And here is what it looks like now ...

Erin's mission:
To raise awareness about hate crimes and homophobia in our society, to give a voice for those who are silent, to inspire others to take a stand against bullies and to be an example of how to overcome obstacles in bringing a creative project to life.

Happy Birthday to a Dame

Happy 78th birthday to Dame Elizabeth Taylor - AKA Elizabeth Taylor Hilton Wilding Todd Fisher Burton Burton Warner Fortensky.

In my opinion, Liz Taylor is one of the most strikingly beautiful women to ever walk the planet.  And one of the most admirable - for all her work on behalf of the AIDS/HIV community.

La Liz is also the star of one of my all-time favorite commercials.  Diva!! ...

Dubai Mall Evacuated after Fish Tank Cracks

From Towleroad:
"One of the largest tanks in the world, the aquarium features the world's largest viewing panel at 32.8 meters (107 ft 7 in) wide and 8.3 meters high. It was designed to hold more than 33,000 living animals, representing more than 85 species including over 400 sharks and rays combined, according to Dubai Mall's website. A Reuters witness said the mall, operated by Emaar Properties, had been partly evacuated and dozens of emergency vehicles were outside. Six divers entered the tank and appeared to be coordinating with workers outside the glass. Laborers mopped up water from the floor."

I just hope there were no Killer Whales up in there ...
