What Are You Thankful For?

  • I am thankful for being alive - especially after this summer
  • I am thankful for having a day job that isn't completely horrible - even though it annoys me plenty.
  • I am thankful for my wonderful family and friends - who continue to give a shizz about me no matter what.
  • I am thankful for Arby's Roast Beef. Forever and ever. Amen.
  • Finally, I am thankful for all you gorgeous DustBunnies who stop by to read what my brain (or my hottiphoto archive) burps out on a daily basis. Seriously - YOU are the reason I spend 30-40 hours a week blogging - and it blows me away every day that ya'll keep coming back. Don't ever leave me!!
What are YOU thankful for??

Thanksgiving Plans

I have an extremely taxing two-day workweek this week - and then I'm off until next Tuesday. On Wednesday morning I'll be taking my annual trip to the land of my forefathers and foremothers - Central Pennsylvania.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday - no presents to buy, no feeling guilty for not setting foot in a church for 35 years - just plain old American gluttony. Although I just read that the Teatards think Thanksgiving is some kind of socialist commie bastard holiday. Or something. Sweet Baby Jeebus, those idiots ruin EVERYTHING.

While in PA, my best gay girlfriend and I are planning on seeing Burlesque (Cher + Xtina = GAYGASM), and I was thinking about taking my Dad to see Harry Potter (he has read all the books) - but not if there's a scene like this ...

In a programming note, I will NOT be recapping tomorrow's The Fashion Show - but recaps will return the following week. Also, blogging will be existent but much lighter than usual while I'm away.

What are YOUR plans for the Thanksgiving holiday??

You Should See What Happens After They Get Wasted ...

It's the White Meat Monday before Thanksgiving - time for America's turkeys to party-like-it's-1999 one last time before serving their country on Thursday. Or, more accurately, BEING served TO their country. Enjoy it while you still can, delicious birds ... enjoy it while you can ...

And YES, I realize the critters above are probably chickens, but YOU try finding a picture of four turkeys lounging in a hot tub/sink. And YES, I also realize I posted this same picture last Thanksgiving. But please keep in mind that blogging is hard!!

:)

Thanksgiving Treats: Cherpumple vs. Turkey Cake

You might want to pop a Zantac or two before reading this. I'm warning you...

Over the weekend, Gothamist did a post about the Cherpumple (above) - the "Turducken of desserts" - a three-layer cake (yellow, spice, white) with a pie baked inside of each layer (cherry, pumpkin, apple). I'm sorry, but "Cherpumple" sounds like the blemishes Cher gets on her (extremely taught) forehead after eating greasy food.

Not to be outdone, The Daily What upped the Thanksgiving "dessert" ante with the Thanksgiving Turkey Cake (above). This "cake" consists of layers of ground turkey, sausage stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce coated with more mashed potatoes, a layer of sweet potatoes, and a cup-and-a-half of mini-marshmallows. Gravy optional.

Question: would any of you try either of these? I would probably prefer the Turkey "cake" over Cher's Pimple since it has stuffing and stuffing is made of awesome. However, I'm going to wait for Arby's to come up with a Thanksgiving Roast Beef Pie with Curly Fry crust and Horsey Sauce whipped cream.

Thanksgiving - Part II

Round two of Thanksgiving happened yesterday at Casa de Mama Bunny - complete with family, turkey, and all the trimmings (above). It was a lovely day.

And here are a couple of Thanksgiving celebrations from the BunnyNation. First of all, we have Mark In DE - who celebrated with his Spouse's and his Spouse's family (below)...

And AlnHouston, who said it was a lovely day on the Gulf Coast. It must have been, because they were able to eat outside!!...

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend. I know most of you go back to work tomorrow, but I have one more day in Pennsylvania before heading back to work in NYC on Tuesday. That should give me enough time to get to Arby's and load up on the Five Roast Beef Sandwiches for $5.00 deal - which the local Arby's is currently doing. Mmmmmmmmmm....

Pennsylvania Thanksgiving - Feast #1

Since my Mom is doing her big meal on Saturday, I went to my Aunt's (actually, my Stepmom's sister) house for Thanksgiving yesterday. We did it buffet-style (AKA 'grab-and-growl'), and the picture above shows all the goodies: turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, stuffing/dressing (which many here in Central PA call 'filling'), and Brussels sprouts. I'm not used to having Brussels sprouts at Thanksgiving - but I see that Bob and Carlos made some too (UPDATE: Kailyn also). Afterwards there was pumpkin and apple pies, pumpkin bread, and fruit salad for dessert.

Bob also took pictures of his adorable animals ... so I thought I would plagiarize his idea and do the same. First of all, here are the two newest members of my Dad's household...

These two kittens (a boy and a girl) don't have names because they are up for adoption. Seriously, if anyone wants an adorable cat (or two), and can make it to Carlisle, PA, please send me an email.

They are so friggin cute, but also lucky to be alive. They were found shortly after birth - dirty and hungry and alone. Perhaps the mother was killed, but whatever happened she abandoned 4 baby kittens who needed to be nursed. So my Dad nursed them by hand - and they grew into healthy little Hell-raisers. Two of the four have been adopted, but these two remain at Dad's house, awaiting a good home. Dad can't keep them, because he already has 9 cats of his own!!

Two of Dad's nine cats are Dusty's brothers. Here is one of them...

Much like their sister, I couldn't get both of "The Boys" (that's what they're called) to sit still long enough for a picture. They look exactly like Dusty - except they are bigger and a little more muscular.

Anywhore, how was YOUR Thanksgiving?!?

Have A Relaxing Thanksgiving!

Obama Shows "Courage" Some Mercy

President Obama is certainly NOT a vegetarian ... from USA Today:
"There are certain days that remind me of why I ran for this office. And then there are moments like this where I pardon a turkey and send it to Disneyland," President Obama told a crowd of onlookers huddled under the White House portico on a drizzly November morning.

They were gathered to see him spare "Courage," a plump white bird who gobbled for mercy on cue, from the dinner table.

Obama credited daughters Sasha and Malia, who accompanied him on this official duty, for the act of mercy. "I was planning to eat this sucker," the president joked, as the crowd laughed appreciatively and Courage, raised in Goldsboro, N.C., craned his blue head around nervously.

Damn, President Obama was ready to cover ole Courage with gravy and have at it! THE PRESIDENT WAS HONGRAY!!!!

Bloggers: I Have An Assignment For You

You mission, should you choose to accept it ... Take a picture of your Thanksgiving table and post it to your blog, along with a list of all the goodies served.

I find it fascinating how most of the nation celebrates Thanksgiving - yet each family/individual does it in their own unique way. And I think it would be interesting to see how differently all my Dust Bunnies celebrate. If anyone posts anything extremely gorgeous/outrageous/noteworthy, I'll give you a shout-out on DavidDust ... sort of a "Turkey Day Hall of Fame". Or Shame ... whichever the case may be.

Gobble gobble!

Thanksgiving Plans?

What is everyone doing for Thanksgiving? I will be getting on an Amtrak train to Harrisburg, PA tomorrow morning (cost for a ONE WAY ticket: $87.00!!!!!), and I won't be returning to NYC until Monday, November 30th. While in Pennsylvania, I plan on getting caught up on my blogging (as well as blog-reading), and taking multiple trips to Wal-Mart - as well as visiting with family and friends.

On Thanksgiving Day I will be hanging out with my Stepmom's family, and on Saturday Mama Bunny will do her big feast. Yes, I will basically spend my entire trip with a bowl full of stuffing and gravy in front of me ... just the way I like it.

What are YOU doing for the holiday?...

Back To Baby Carrots...

I'm back from Thanksgiving, and I'm happy to report I didn't completely lose control of my diet while in Pennsylvania. I did NOT count my points while there, but I DID buy a bunch of fruit and other Weight Watcher's-friendly foods upon my arrival. So instead eating stuffing and mashed potatoes 100% of the time, I only did it 50% of the time. I consider this a triumph.

Weight-wise, I have gained 4 pounds since my lowest point 1 1/2 weeks ago. Again, a TRIUMPH. I am, as we speak, eating baby carrots and am back to counting points.

This next month will be difficult - it is my busiest time of the year, which makes it difficult to stay on plan. But I have promised to do my best. Wish me luck.

Mama Bunny's Water Garden

It was very sunny on Thanksgiving Day, so I went out in Mama Bunny's back yard and took pictures of her pride and joy - the Water Garden. Mama Bunny and StepDaddy have a natural hill in their backyard, so they hired someone with a backhoe to dig a big hole. They landscaped around the hole , sealed it up, put in a recirculating water pump, filled it with water and fish - and Voila, they had a water garden. They have had it for years now, and the sounds of the water falling into the pond is extremely relaxing.

By the way, someone commented on my mother's lack of anything green on her Thanksgiving table (see post HERE). This is very true - but it is a family tradition. One Thanksgiving, my mother asked my younger brother what his favorite green vegetable was - and told him she would cook whatever he wanted. My brother's answer: "CORN".

Hence no green vegetable on our table, but ALWAYS corn.
