Project "Run Away and Join the Circus"

Tonight's episode of Project Runway has a circus theme - which I'm sure just THRILLED Nina Garcia.  As entertaining as this sounds, I unfortunately won't be recapping this week due to work and personal obligations.  A discussion post will be put up tomorrow morning for anyone who wants to vent.

BTW - did anyone watch the finale of Shear Genius and the premiere of Top Chef Masters last night on Bravo?  What did you think?

Camila Alves Deaf?

It cracks me up that anytime Shear Genius is on TV, my blog gets dozens of hits from people Googling "Camila Alves Deaf?"  The picture below is a partial screen capture of my Feedjit feed during the show last night.  As you can see (click on the image to embiggen), in this case I got 3 hits within one minute.

The results take people to THIS POST from a couple weeks ago where I described Camila as sounding "like Elmer Fudd's deaf, mentally challenged sister".  And now, believe it or not, I feel kinda bad for saying that...

For the record, as far as I know Camila Alves is NOT deaf (or retarded) - she just has a Brazilian accent.

Shear Genius - Wow ... Just WOW

I tried to watch Shear Genius again last night, but I just CAN'T.  Seriously - Camila Alves (above left) sounds like Elmer Fudd's deaf, mentally challenged sister.  And every time Jonathan Antin (above right) is onscreen they should issue a "Smug Alert".

And don't even get me started on Kim Vo...

I just CAN'T...

Bits & Pieces: Nice Models, Spike, Johnny Weir & Top Haircut

I got a cute comment from cute model Jonathan Isaiah (below), who I featured on January 27th...

LOL, somehow came across this blog site. thanks for the love & support man!

-respectfully,
Jonathan Isaiah

Wasn't that sweet?!?  Much nicer that "TAKE MY PICTURES DOWN!!!".

Over the weekend I watched Be Good Johnny Weir, an ongoing documentary on the Sundance Channel about figure skater Johnny Weir (above).  He is likable and funny (and oh-so-gay), and it was interesting watching all the hard work he puts into his sport.

Yesterday it was reported that Johnny was bowing to pressure from animal rights activists and will NOT use real fur in his Olympic costume (they had threatened to disrupt his routine).  This must have KILLED that queen, because Johnny LOVES his "fuh".

Here's a blast from the past...

Chef Spike Mendelsohn from Top Chef Season 4 is following me on Twitter.  Goodness, I wonder if he's read all the STANK I wrote about him in my recaps?!?  I actually feel bad now...

And, finally...

Did anybody watch Top Haircut A.K.A. Shear Genius last night?  OMG - how HORRIBLE was Camila Alves (above)?  Shhhhh ... be VEWWWWY qwiet ... she's hunting WABBITS!!  Camila Alves makes Rene Fris sound like Julie Andrews in The Sound Of Music.

PLUS Jonathan Antin (who I can't stand) is on Shear Genius this season - so I personally won't be watching.  However, if you are a fan, the folks at Blogging Bravo will provide you with everything you need to know.  Also, our good friend The Minx will be doing her patented hysterical recaps - so I feel like there is no need for me to mention Shear Genius ever again...

>P, B!!

Hot Ladies from the Shear Genius Party

I know I keep talking about the Shear Genius/Nexxus event I attended, but I had to share this adorable photo. From left, my darling Laura K, salontestant Gail Soifer, salontestestant Glenn Mitchell, and the fabulous Minx.

Speaking of Glenn, apparently she is familiar with my writing. The Minx shared a portion of a recent email exchange she had with Glenn:

From Glenn:
Ok first and foremost, Tell David that i can only read his blog when I have on my DEPENDS! I love him!

How cool is THAT - Glenn is a Dust Bunny! And I make her tinkle!!

Thanks again to Laura and The Minx for letting me hang out with them.

XOXOXO

Shear Genius/Nexxus Finale Viewing Party

In case you haven’t heard, I went to the Shear Genius/Nexxus Finale viewing party held at the Tribeca Grand Hotel last night. Thanks to Blogging Project Runway’s Laura K for inviting me to join the gang. What a great event!

In addition to getting to see Laura again, I finally got to meet The Minx (lead blogger of Blogging Shear Genius). She was a funny, fabulous and charming party companion! Hanging out with Laura and The Minx was such a pleasure.

I got to meet so many other great people, including salontestants Nicole, Dee, and Daniel (who was a hoot!). Charlie was extremely funny and warm in person – and not bitchy at all. I also got to meet Project Rungay blogger Lorenzo, who was there with Project Runway Season Two designer Emmett McCarthy. Yes Maddie, I got to meet René Fris and he is very handsome in person. But no – I did NOT give him your number (you are married, you big HO!).

I was most thrilled to chat with Shear Genius host (and former Charlie’s Angel) Jaclyn Smith. What a total sweetheart! She is not a blog reader, so she grilled The Minx and I as to what people were saying on the blogs. In particular, she wanted to know if people wrote “nasty” things about the show. We tried to explain that yes, some people are evil, but most bloggers attempt to be funny without being intentionally hurtful. That’s my story – and I’m sticking to it.

You can tell Jaclyn had genuine affection for the salontestants, and we spoke about how she gets emotional when someone is sent home. She was so cute – she said the camera tends to cut away from her when she REALLY tears up – so what we saw on TV wasn’t even the full extent of her waterworks.

And one last thing about Jaclyn – she looked FLAWLESS. Farrah Fawcett needs to do whatever it is Jaclyn is doing – because it’s working. Jaclyn was even prettier than René.

After cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, we sat down in the screening room to watch the show’s finale. In addition to Laura and The Minx, our party also included Project Runway Season 3 designer Malan Breton and Season 3 model Amanda Fields (who is GORGEOUS and sweet). I got to sit beside Malan during the screening – and we laughed like crazy! On Project Runway, the editing made Malan out to be this evil weirdo – but nothing could have been further from the truth. He was hysterical (especially after a couple of martinis). And Malan – if you get a chance to read this – I would love to attend your next fashion show.

Congratulations to Dee Adames, the winner of Shear Genius. She was there with her adorable Mom and was presented with the big check for $100,000 – which she will used to start her own salon. To view more photos from the event, click here.

Thanks again to Laura for including me – and thanks to the people at Kaplow Public Relations (and Nexxus) for the VIP treatment (and gift bag!). I hope to be invited back next season.

I'm A "Busy Bunny"...

This is going to be an extremely busy week for me. I leave for New Orleans on Friday – and I was a lazy blob this weekend and got nothing done. So in addition to getting caught up at work, I have to pack and do all kinds of other stuff. I also have two big events this week:

Tomorrow: My birthday. I turn 41 – which sounds incredibly old to me. I will spend the evening washing clothes at the Laundromat across the street from my apartment – since I didn’t do it over the weekend. Très glamorous, I know…

Wednesday: The reason I won’t be recapping Project Runway, or the Finale of Shear Genius is because I WILL BE AT THE SHEAR GENIUS FINALE PARTY. My darling Laura K got me an invite – and I’m so excited to see her again. Just to refresh your memory, Laura was the one who arranged THIS. I will also finally get to meet The Minx face-to-face. My darling Minx is responsible for THIS. These are two responsible ladies!

I don’t have a DVR and I won’t have time to watch Project Runway repeats before I leave for New Orleans. So for the first time in the history of DavidDust, there won’t be a Project Runway recap. Trust me, we will all survive – and I’ll be back in time to recap next week’s episode, I promise.

I still don’t know WHAT my enormous self is going to wear to this soiree. I was supposed to go to the Fat Boy Store over the weekend, but as I mentioned, I was sick with the Mad Couch Disease. I was also supposed to get my haircut and go to my tanning salon – but didn’t.

So I’ll just have to be a Busy Bunny all week…

From The Mailbag...

Happy Birthday to Kayce AKA Chef the City. Her birthday was Sunday – and yesterday’s Ryan Lochte post was in honor of her - even if she DID email me the details of her recent meal at ARBY'S! Taunting me like that is just mean... :)

Speaking of birthdays, still no word from yesterday’s birthday boy Dan. His good friend Jimbo was supposed to keep us informed, and yet we get NOTHING. Thanks a lot guys… :) Anywhoo – I hope Dan is having fun, wherever he is.

My darling Jennie is close to 500 posts at her blog: Preteens, Toddlers, and Newborns OH MY! In honor of this milestone, she’s giving away tons of free crap (well, not really CRAP – good stuff!). So go visit her blog, make a comment, tell her how funny and fierce she is, and maybe you’ll get some crap, er… NAIL POLISH.

Top Design (Bravo’s answer to HGTV’s Design Star) will take the Top Haircut/Shear Genius spot on Wednesday’s at 10:00 pm after the Shear Genius finale. Our darling friend Laura K sent us over a preview of one of the hot designtestants – Preston Lee. Thanks Laura!!

Speaking of Shear Genius (and Laura K) – I will be sharing some exiting news with you all very soon - STAY TUNED!

And speaking of Design StarMikey V sat down with AfterElton after he spoke to us. It seems that Mikey and HGTV still aren’t seeing eye-to-eye - read it here.

If you have anything you'd like to share, send me an email at daviddust@gmail.com.

Top Haircut Episode Eight - "The Non-Recap"

I am not going to get a Shear Genius recap written - I just don't have the time to do it. But that doesn't mean YOU have to be deprived of Top Haircut hilarity. Please check out my two favorite recappers:

My buddy, The Minx - serves up her Photoshopped hysterics HERE.

And Cliff has a "supwrise" for you HERE.

Please leave them comments telling them how fabulous they both are. Us recappers need constant coddling...

Top Haircut Episode Seven - Lots and Lots of Bitches

Yes, darling readers, after a two-week hiatus, I’m back to recapping Top Haircut. If you don’t remember, last week I was thwarted by the Great Blogger Lockout of 2008, and the week before my Mother decided to write my recap for me. Why wasn’t she so eager to do my homework when I was in SCHOOL?!?

To get you all up to speed, Gail and Glenn have gone home – while Nekisa somehow remains. Charlie is still a bitch, Dee is still a cross-eyed lesbian, and Daniel still sounds like Lady Bird Johnson.

The salontestants gather in the salon, where Hostess with the Mostess Jaclyn Smith greets them. Since they all sucked ass last week at the Charlie’s Angels challenge, no one gets to be on the Allure Hall of Fame Lite·Brite Board. The sadness is palpable.

This week’s guest judge is “Kitchen Beautician” Robert Hallowell. He is called a kitchen beautician because bitch is cheap and would rather use peanut butter than Nexxus products. Why is Bravo – the Queens of Product Placement – letting this hippie on the show? Oh, I get it – Bravo just landed the Procter & Gamble account...

Shortcut Challenge:

The salontestants are required to create a “futuristic” look, using no salon products – just food items such as anchovies, mustard and tuna. That’s just nasty. There is a table in front of them with 33 different items, and I’m waiting for Padma to ask them to draw knives. The Top Chef hostess never materializes, so our Kitchen Beauticians select clients and food products and the fun begins.

Charlie will be baking his model’s hair using flour and salt. Dee will be “frosting” her model with egg whites and butter. And Nicole has picked squid – because she is stoned.

Charlie is on the rag today – and is alternately picking fights with wonk-eyed LesbiDee, and perpetual bottom-dweller Nekisa. Nekisa is the only one dumb enough to take the bait. And Charlie better hope that Dee’s good eye doesn’t finally focus on him – lesbians can be vicious once they get a lock on you.

The 45 minutes are up, and the salontestants line up for judging. Guest Judge Robert likee Paulo, Daniel and Dee – and no likee Nekisa (natch) and Nicole. Nicole, who ditched her Fried Hair Calamari idea and got rid of the squid – is the loser. Maybe a nice seafood salad would have been better – after all, it IS summertime. Paulo is declared the winner.

That night, they all return to the house and do their usual drinking and hating. Daniel Bird Johnson, who seems to be the most diplomatic of the bunch, gives us the Hate Update. Nekisa hates Nicole. Nicole hates Dee. Dee hates Charlie. Charlie hates everyone. And Jaclyn Smith hates Lippy Kim Vo for stealing her Monday morning appointment at the Botox Doctor.

Elimination Challenge:

The next day, the remaining six stylists meet René Steak Frites in a park to receive their challenge. He reveals the clients – and six bitches come walking over the hill – along with their female owners. Yes, the stylist bitches will be cutting and styling dog hair.

Dee looks wonk-eyed and horrified. She don’t know nothing about no dogs. She has a cat. Of course you do dear, you are a lesbian. And I bet you also have 85 keys on your clip-on keychain, and a collection of sleeveless flannel shirts. I would bet money that her pussy’s name is Rosie. I mean her CAT, people – don’t be disgusting!

Paulo gets to select his bitch first, and then selects the order the other stylists get to choose. Daniel has to pick last, so we can add “Daniel hates Paulo” to the Hate Update.

What’s this?!? There’s a TWIST! Not only will these bitches be cutting the hair of the bitches, they will ALSO cut the bitch’s OWNER’S hair! And they have to make doggie and lady look alike. And since none of the stylists were paying attention to the women (only the dogs) – they are thrown for a loop. Good luck, bitches – ALL of you.

They return to the salon, which has been stocked with doggie grooming products. They have 2 ½ hours to get all their bitches runway-ready. Goodness, I would LOVE to hear René say “wunway weady”…

René Fudd wanders around giving “advice” – which consists of words that no one can understand. This prompts the salontestants to nod their head “yes” a lot and pray he moves on. But René won’t leave Nekisa alone – saying her doggie looks “pwegnant”. He is also making Charlie smacktalk the others, and Charlie focuses on Dee – who he thinks is good, “but she’s a bitch”. Wait, I’m getting all my bitches confused.

Nekisa’s client look like she wants to run away – the WOMAN, not the dog. And Daniel decides to put HAIR EXTENSIONS on his dog. Paulo thinks this looks like “Duck’s ass on crack”. Now we can also add “Paulo hates Daniel” to the Hate Update.

And now it’s time for me to write the line I’ve been waiting to write this entire episode:

It’s time for the Dog Show, BITCHES!

On the runway, we are introduced to the Judges: Lippy Kim Vo, Kelly Atterton, and Guest Judge Jennifer McCarthy – dog trainer to the stars. She seems like a serious person, and I bet she HATES it when people call her “Jenny McCarthy” and ask her why her hair isn’t blond. I can just picture her eye-roll and disgust. Jaclyn gets to utter the phrase that SHE has been waiting to say this entire episode: “Every dog has its day”. Walk bitches!!!

All the bitches walk and show off their new styles. After the show, the judges determine that Daniel and Dee are the top two. Dee is the winner, because both her bitches ended up looking alike. Yes ladies and gentleman – the lesbian won the Bitch Challenge. My money was on Charlie, but I was wrong.

Speaking of Charlie – he, Paulo, and Nekisa (natch) are in the bottom three. Charlie bitches about having to cut the bitches, but the bitch is safe. This leaves us with Paulo’s “mullet”, and Nekisa’s mess. Nekisa’s model looks absolutely horrified by what has been done to her hair – AND to her dog's hair. These bitches aren’t happy.

Paulo is safe – and Nekisa finally goes home. After being in the bottom for almost EVERY challenge – she gets booted by two bitches.

Next week: Lippy Kim Vo has “violet vomit”. Or is that VIOLENT vomit? Whatever it is, I bet it was caused by the Botox. Till then BITCHES!!!
