Team Griffin - No H8!

Kathy Griffin and members of her posse recently got photographed for Adam Bouska's NOH8 Campaign - which raises awareness about the h8fulness of California's Prop 8.

First of all, how cute is Maggie with her glass of wine?!? And I had no idea Tom and Tiffany could be so hot - who knew?!?. Good work Team Griffin!

h/t to Towleroad.

Freedom To Marry

I'd be fighting for marriage equality like Pimp on his no-money-earnin' Ho, if this man wanted to marry me.

Please go HERE and sign the "Repeal Prop 8" petition from the Human Rights Campaign.

NYC Prop 8 Protest

I stopped by the Proposition 8 protest in the West Village after work yesterday. There were a couple hundred people gathered at the corner of Christopher Street and 7th Avenue South - monitored by a few dozen police officers.

Okay, I'm going to be a Bad Gay now, but the protest was pretty boring. Low on outrage and energy, but heavy on the Papi Police Officers. One, in particular, really caught my eye. Even the back of Officer Romero's head (above) was sexy.

So I stopped paying attention to the protesters, and started stalking Officer Romero. Here are a few more grainy photos...

I know - BAD GAY!!! But maybe I would have been more involved in a marriage-equality demonstration if Officer Romero (or anybody else, for that matter) wanted to gaymarry me...

Anywhore, I couldn't stick around and march with Officer Romero the protesters to Union Square - I had too much crap to get done - so I hopped on the subway back home.

Prop 8 Upheld - Protests Planned

As many of you already know, Proposition 8 was upheld by the California Supreme Court (although the existing 18,000 same-sex marriages are allowed to stand). So the people at Day of Decision will be coordinating PROTESTS, not celebrations.

I walked over to Sheridan Square a few minutes ago (the site of the NYC Protest at 6:00 pm) and I noticed blue police barricades had been delivered, but not set up yet.

BTW - if you look closely at the picture above, you can see the famous George Segal sculptures - "Gay Liberation" in Christopher Park (on the right). The park is directly across the street from the Stonewall Inn, and this was where the Gays and Drag Queens held their ground and barraged the police with bricks, bottles, and even pennies on the night of the Stonewall Riots.

Day Of Decision - Tomorrow

The California Supreme Court will announce it's decision tomorrow regarding Proposition 8. If the court rejects Proposition 8 and says that California same-sex couples are entitled to the marriage rights that heterosexual couples already have - then there will be celebrations nationwide. If the court upholds Prop 8, there will be protests instead. Go HERE to find out where the celebration/protest near you will be.

In NYC, we will gather at Sheridan Square (in front of the historic Stonewall Inn) at 6:00 pm - and march to Union Square. Since my job is just steps away from Sheridan Square, I plan on joining the masses after work.

Boycott Cinemark!

Alan Stock, the head of the large movie chain Cinemark (which also goes by the names by Century Theatre, CineArts and Tinseltown) gave $9,999 to the 'Yes on 8' campaign - and a boycott has been called for. For a list of U.S. locations, go HERE.

No longer will individuals be allowed to fund hate and not suffer the consequences. Some will ask: Why boycott a company when it's the employees who will suffer? The answer to that is: actions have consequences. Mr. Stock makes his money from Cinemark. Mr. Stock uses that money to fund hate. Therefore, we should cut off his money, so he can no longer fund hate. If Mr. Stock cares about his reputation, the reputation of his company, and the well-being of his employees, he will think twice before helping Haters in the future.

BOYCOTT CINEMARK THEATERS. No more Mr. Nice Gay...

Prop 8 Protest In NYC

I want to let all my NYC Dust Bunnies know that there will be a Prop 8 protest this Wednesday at 6:30 pm. We will be protesting at the Mormon Temple at 125 Columbus Avenue (at 65th Street). Yes, I said "WE", because my formerly complacent gay ass has had enough. NO MORE MR. NICE GAY!!! From Towleroad:

"Tens of thousands of our brothers and sisters are in the streets in California and Salt Lake City and around the country protesting the votes banning same-sex marriage in California. Join them! Make your voices heard right here in New York City. We will tell the Mormon Church how we feel about its relentless campaign to condemn and control our lives. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was, by far, the biggest financier of California's heinous and hateful Proposition 8. The Mormon Church begged their members to donate money to Prop 8, pouring 20 million dollars into the campaign. And their attacks on us didn't start there and aren't about to end. They're plotting right now to bring their money and influence to bear against the LGBT community everywhere in this country, including trying to prevent marriage equality in New York."

It's on and poppin, bitches...

It's Shitstorm Time...

Under IRS tax regulations, no "church" can use church personnel, resources, or funds to influence legislation. The Mormon "church" used it's members, resources, and most importantly TONS OF MONEY to pass Proposition 8. So there are various petition drives going on right now requesting that the Internal Revenue Service take away the "church's" tax-exempt status. Please go HERE to see what you can do to help in this effort.

Although the Mormon "religion" tries to portray itself as a branch of Christianity, many think it is nothing but a very rich and successful CULT.

In addition to petitioning the IRS, there is talk of a boycott of the state of Utah - home of the Mormon "religion". You know, the state that the Mormons founded TO ESCAPE PERSECUTION - due to their differing beliefs about MARRIAGE (polygamy).

Sound familiar, Bitches?!? Trust me - the SHITSTORM against these hateful bastards has just begun.

Homophobia In The African-American Community?

California's Proposition 8 voting (by race):

Writer Dan Savage voices some concerns that many of us in the gay community are having right now:

"African American voters in California voted overwhelmingly for Prop 8, writing anti-gay discrimination into California’s constitution and banning same-sex marriage in that state. Seventy percent of African American voters approved Prop 8, according to exit polls, compared to 53% of Latino voters, 49% of white voters, 49% of Asian voters.

"I’m not sure what to do with this. I’m thrilled that we’ve just elected our first African-American president. I wept last night. I wept reading the papers this morning. But I can’t help but feeling hurt that the love and support aren’t mutual.

"I do know this, though: I’m done pretending that the handful of racist gay white men out there—and they’re out there, and I think they’re scum—are a bigger problem for African Americans, gay and straight, than the huge numbers of homophobic African Americans are for gay Americans, whatever their color.

"This will get my name scratched of the invite list of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, which is famous for its anti-racist-training seminars, but whatever. Finally, I’m searching for some exit poll data from California. I’ll eat my shorts if gay and lesbian voters went for McCain at anything approaching the rate that black voters went for Prop 8." - Dan Savage.

I can't help but agree. I would assume that "Civil Rights" would apply to everyone - and I am surprised that gays and lesbians have fewer allies in the African-American community than we thought.

Vote NO On Prop 8

The bigoted assholes behind California's "Yes On 8" campaign have now resorted to blackmail.

Jim Abbot gave $10,000 toward marriage equality, and the received a threatening letter:

The letter says if Jim doesn't give an equal donation to Yes on 8, the name of his company will be published. It reads in part, "It is only fair for Proposition 8 supporters to know which companies and organizations oppose traditional marriage."
Read the story HERE. Do what to can to preserve marriage equality by going to No On 8 HERE.

Meanwhile, new Dust Bunny Kanani has written a beautiful No On 8 post - read it HERE. And please welcome her to the Dust Bunny family.

Only 10 days left to change the world...

Vote No On Proposition 8

The California anti-marriage equality amendment (Prop 8) forces are winning - thanks to a ton of time and money from the Mormon church and right-wing fundamentalists. If this amendment passes, it could take decades to undo the damage. Please consider donating some money (HERE) to fight these bigots. And if you live in California - VOTE NO ON PROP 8.

Gay-Haters Winning CA Prop 8 Battle!

The anti-gay crusaders are currently ahead in California. From Joe.My.God:

The poll conducted for CBS 5 by SurveyUSA indicates that support for the measure to ban gay marriage has grown among voters in the state over an eleven day period — most especially among young voters. According to the poll, likely California voters overall now favor passage of Proposition 8 by a five-point margin, 47 percent to 42 percent. Ironically, a CBS 5 poll eleven days prior found a five-point margin in favor of the measure's opponents.

It doesn't help matters that these bigots have outraised us - $25.4 million to $15.8 million. If you live in California, or know anyone who does - please help spread the word - VOTE NO ON PROP 8.

Go to NoOnProp8.com to donate and/or volunteer.

Supporting The Gays And Gay Marriage

Ellen Degeneres recently gave Californians a reason to vote against California's Proposition 8 - she doesn't want to return her wedding gifts (she really LOVES her new toaster). Read her funny statement HERE.

Google came out against Prop 8 last week (read HERE), and Levi's chipped in $25,000 toward the cause (HERE).

Pepsi just donated a whopping $500,000 to PFLAG - Parents Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays - which works to strengthen the bond between the gay community and our straight allies.

Please go HERE for more information on the VOTE NO ON PROP 8 movement (especially if you live in California). I also urge all Dust Bunny Bloggers to get the word out on their blogs.
