I've Had A Visitor

The damn Drama Llama showed up at my job and the beeyotch won't leave!!! So if I'm not around much over these next few days it's because I'm shoveling Drama Llama doo-doo.

A Lot Going On ...

A quick update...
  • I'm feeling better, but definitely not 100%. Walking pneumonia is a total beeyotch, I'm telling ya.
  • Another round of doctor visits tomorrow. Bloodwork, X-Rays, and the like.
  • Apparently there may also be an issue with my kidneys. Don't ask me what, I just work here.
  • Speaking of work, I'm back today - gotta make that money.
  • My roommate has a houseguest this week - one of her gay friends who is on Spring Break. He's adorable and tons of fun - but I feel like his gay dad. In fact, his mother is only one year older than I am. Regardless, if I'm healthy enough I'm dragging his skinny butt to either Boots and Saddle or The Urges later this week. I just love corrupting the youth of America.
That's about it. What's new with you?

Working On Caturday

Been feeling better so I decided to go to work today to start catching up - which should be tons of fun.

What do you have planned today? Unlike me, I'm sure most of you have fabulous places (AKA "Arby's") to go and people to see - so please share.

I'm Back

Oh it's been nothing but sunshine and unicorns over hear at DustBunny Headquarters. Yesterday, after fighting a fever, the chills and a lack of breath - I finally went to my Doctor and he confirmed what I thought was true. I have Pneumonia - this time of the "walking" variety.

Doc came "this" close to admitting me into the hospital, but I begged, pleaded, stomped my feet, and promised to eat more leafy greens if he'd let me give the "take antibiotics at home/bedrest" thing a try. Luckily, he agreed. I think the leafy greens are what sealed the deal.

The last thing I need is another stint in the hospital. It's bad enough that I don't get paid sick days, so if I have to stay home from work, I'm gonna watch the History Channel, read blogs and order Chinese Food in my own damn apartment.

BTW - do they make Chinese Food with leafy greens?...

My New Roommate: "Troy"

One of my roommates just adopted an adorable kitten named Troy - last night was his first night in the apartment. So far we've kept little Troy separated from Oscar and Dusty - we'll let them get to know each other on opposite sides of my roommate's door. At least for now.

Troy is a total sweetheart - and purrs loudly when you pet him. Just like his Uncle David...

Busy Bunny

My day job beckons and I actually have some Holiday events to coordinate over the next couple days - so blogging will be light. And, unfortunately, this means no Top Chef recap tomorrow. Sowwy.

XOXO

Back To Work

After a week in beautiful Central Pennsylvania, it's back to the old grind today. And to make today even more miserable - I'm scheduled to see the Nutritionist this morning and get myself weighed.

Today ain't gonna be pretty...

One More Time

Yesterday I spent Thanksgiving with my Dad, Stepmom and her family. But TODAY is the big event: my Aunt & Uncle have flown up from Texas, and we'll be doing another big Thanksgiving meal today at Mama Bunny's house - complete with my cousin, brother and step-sister.

My Nutrionist will simply be APPALLED when I get on the scale on Tuesday.

Heading To My Homeland

At 7:30 this morning I'll be getting on an Amtrak train bound for Central Pennsylvania - land of SALTY SNACKS, TASTY MEATSPURPLE EGGS and the place where I was born. I'm all set for a nice long Thanksgiving visit with my friends, family and all the local Arby's employees.

And as long as Papa Bunny's computer cooperates, I should be able to continue posting throughout the week.

Happy Trails!!!!

Let Me MULLET Over ...

I really wish the Internet would quite publishing pics from my childhood. Really, it's embarrassing...

Actually, that's a blatent lie - this picture CANNOT be me for two reasons: 1) My conservative dad would have frowned upon me wearing a hippy commie socialist tie-dyed t-shirt; and 2) I've never won anything in my life.

Therefore, this kid is not only more STYLISH than I was at his age (tie-dyed shirt), but more ACCOMPLISHED (trophy). But at least I had better hair back in the day - it was blond, feathered and FIERCE - and hair-sprayed within an inch of its life.

One Down, Five More To Go

I got a tooth pulled today (the infected little beeyotch which has given me so much trouble). Now I only have FIVE more teeth that need to be yanked out of my head. Yeah???

In honor of this milestone, I've taken the day off work and have a long "Things To Do" List for this afternoon:
  • Change bloody gauze
  • Eat something soft
  • Change bloody gauze, again
  • Eat something soft, again
  • Take a Percocet, if necessary
  • Lather, rinse, repeat
Don't be jealous...

My First Therapy Session - Today

Today I have my very first therapy session EVER - and I'm a little nervous. The idea of pouring out my heart to a complete stranger seems very weird.

I've been going to the Shrink regularly - but she doesn't really do talk therapy. She does meds and coordinates with my Doc and my Therapist. Basically, She's Head Beeyotch in Charge of my (crazy) Head.

The Therapist, on the other hand, is kind of a mystery to me. Since I've never don't this before, all I have to go by is what I've seen in movies and on TV.

One good thing - it's completely free (unlike my Shrink, which costs me a $75 copay for each visit - ouch). Therapy, on the other had, is done free-of-charge through Gay Men's Health Crisis.

Wish me luck...

UPDATE: Everything went fine XOXOXOXOXO

International DustBunny Relations

Tonight I have the pleasure of meeting another DustBunny blogger - the fabulous JS from Etalons et Citations. JS is from France - so this will be my first International Dust Bunny meeting! (Unless you count Canada, which is about as international as Montana).

Anywhore, our meeting will take place tonight at the General Assembly of the BunnyNation - "The Urges" at 10 pm. Feel free to join us if you're in the neighborhood!

Bits & Pieces - Post-Irene Edition

The Stonewall Inn - Monday, 8/29/2011, 10:30 am

Some random thoughts/observations/facts about the hurricane.

  • My restaurant was forced to close on Saturday and Sunday because of the transit shutdown. Only a couple of the employees live in Manhattan - and no one could make it into work. We are reopening today. This cost everyone (the owner and the employees) a ton of money because Sat/Sun are our busiest days.

  • Speaking of the transit shutdown - in hindsight they probably could have shut down on Saturday at 6 pm (instead of noon), but I understand the MTA/city were in "better safe than sorry" mode.

  • There was only a little drama during the storm at my apartment. One of my roommates lacks storm windows and she sprung a leak during the heavy rains. The landlord's son-in-law (who lives downstairs), came up and did a temporary fix. FYI: plywood, trash bags and duct tape will pretty much fix anything.

  • This leak (above) might just end up getting us new windows at the apartment (fingers crossed).

  • I think everyone in the city gained 15 lbs this weekend. First of all, New Yorkers ransacked the grocery stores and emptied them of food - food that most of us normally wouldn't buy/eat. So the only thing to do before/during/after the storm was to eat all the crap we had purchased. At least that's what happened at MY apartment.

  • Speaking of eating crap ... do you know that SpaghettiOs with Meatballs AND Franks is the most delicious thing EVAH?!?

  • At no point did the storm ever get frightening (for me, anyway). However, I DID prepare a "Go Bag" before I went to sleep - just in case we had to get out quickly. My bag contained water, cat food, a change of clothing and all my prescriptions. They also tell you to bring extra cash - but the only "extra" money I had was the container of quarters I keep for doing laundry. Between the water and the quarters, my Go Bag was HEAVY - thank goodness I didn't need to use it.

  • My phone didn't stop ringing all weekend. Don't get me wrong - I'm extremely lucky to have such a large number of people who care about me - but after a while the volume of calls became overwhelming. In fact I still have a dozen voicemails to listen to.

  • Finally, the power in my building never went down - although a block or so away they lost power for a while. Our downstairs neighbor explained that our building is on the same electric grid at the nearby hospital, so our power rarely goes down. In fact, during the blackout a few years ago, our block never lost power. As Martha Stewart would say: It's a Good Thing.

How did YOU fare over the weekend?? Even if you don't live on the East Coast, please share your thoughts and experiences in the Comments section.

All Is Well

Everything is fine here - no damage, no power outage, no flooding (in my neighborhood, anyway). In fact, the rain has stopped for now, and we have the windows open.

My parents (in Central PA) fared far worse than we did. Mama Bunny is currently without power - and Papa Bunny has a tree limb resting on a power line right now.

Back here in NYC, I now have to figure out what the deal is with work tomorrow. Believe it or not, I'd like to get back to the normal grind - getting a little stir-crazy here at Casa de Bunny.

An Update

I've gotten some texts/emails/calls inquiring about my well-being, so I decided to do a quick post just to fill you all in.

  • There were about a dozen people in line in front of me at the liquor store last night (not to mention employees and the customers who were still shopping). Previously, I'd never seen more than 2-3 bodies TOTAL in the store at any given time. When  the going gets tough, New Yorkers get wasted.

  • You cannot buy any bread in the entire city. But I went to the grocery store last night and somehow managed to find a pack of Martin's Hoagie Rolls (top). Score! It's a Central Pennsylvania thing - and I was THRILLED.

  • Right now it's raining off and on - and there's no wind to speak of. The worst of the storm will be tonight.

  • Mass transit is completely shut down and my job is closed. Not sure if we'll be open on Monday am, which is when I'm due to go back. But if we remain closed, I won't get paid - so I'm hoping that things get back to normal by then.

Thanks to everyone for your concern - and extra thanks for all the birfday well-wishes yesterday.

>P,B!

XOXOXOXOXO
