We lost Teena Marie all the way back in December and I'm STILL broken up about it. Let's honor the Ivory Queen of Soul by shaking our booties to the funky and fabulous Square Biz.

Lips To Find You
I've got lips, lips to find you
What are you gonna do when there's nowhere to run
When there's no where you can hide from me
When there's nowhere to hide
From the power of my tender
I've got lips to find your love
... Teena Marie (Lips To Find You)

Afternoon Lady Tee Break - Help Youngblood Get to the Freaky Party
Two weeks ago last Sunday I was on my way from church
I met a guy named Youngblood who was totally berserk
He told me he was looking for a place to lay his head
I read him Romans 8:14 and this is what he said...

Afternoon Lady T Break - Behind The Groove
Behind the groove
You can dance forever and a day
Behind the groove
There is romance just a glance away

Afternoon Lady T Break - Alibi
Lipstick on your collar
And the color isn't mine
White lines on the dresser
And you even drank my wine
Babe your face is flushed
It's more than just a hunch
Tell me what's this fear
Maybe she's still here
We Lost a Lady Last Night
As many of you have heard by now, legendary R&B singer Teena Marie was found dead in her home at the age of 54 last night - and I am devastated. I was at a local bar last night having drinks with two of my friends from high school when Sam called and delivered the terrible news. My phone hasn't stop ringing since.
I've blogged about my love for Lady T many times. She was one of the very few artists I would actually pay to see perform, and the ONLY one I saw "live" more than once. I am so upset that I passed up her latest NYC concert (couldn't afford a ticket) - and now I'll never get another chance to hear the "Ivory Queen of Soul" sing one of my favorite songs - Out on a Limb ...
Rest in Peace, my darling Lady T - you will be missed.

Favorite Song #1 - Out on a Limb - Teena Marie
80's Glamour - LEARN IT
Since it's my special day, I'm be posting a couple of my all-time favorite songs (probably all of which I've posted before but whatevs). Darlings, if I ever did drag this would be my break-it-down slow jam - I already know every note, so lip-syncing would be a breeze...

Daebiz is 29 years old and lives in Pembroke Pines, Florida - where he has done a lot of Urban and Fitness print work. And every time I read his name I'm forced to sing one of my favorite songs - "Square Biz" by Teena Marie.
♫ I'm talkin' Square Biz to you Baby - SQUARE, SQUARE BIZ - I'm talkin' love ♫ ...
Seriously ... I can't help it.

Happy Birthday Teena Marie!

Happy Birthday to one of my favorite singer/musicians of all-time – Miss Teena Marie. The Ivory Queen of Soul turns 53 years-old today.
For you casual fans who were around in the 1980’s, you should recognize Lady T's biggest hit – Lovergirl. That song appeared on Teena’s Starchild album, which was released in 1984. Bitches, my friends and I WORE THAT CASSETTE OUT during our trip to Wildwood, NJ after graduating from high school!! Personally, my very fave Teena song also comes from Starchild – the slow-jam Out on a Limb. All I need to hear are those first few notes and my hands shoot up in the air, my eyes close, and I GET MY SONG ON!
Old-school fans will also recognize Teena Marie’s early Motown hits, such as I Need Your Lovin’, and Square Biz. Then there is also the classic duet with her late mentor (I’m) Rick James (Bitch!) called Fire & Desire. Since Rick’s death, Teena performs BOTH parts of the duet in concert.
Speaking of concerts, I’m NOT much of a concert-goer. I never seem to have the money, and I am perfectly content to listen to my favorite artists on CD (no, I still don’t own an MP345IpodThingy). I have only seen a handful of concerts in my entire life, and the ONLY person I’ve paid to see twice is Teena Marie. Both concerts were at clubs here in NYC, and my only goal was to stay sober enough to hear Out on a Limb. I was more successful during the second concert...
