News: Ice-T Vs. Rick Ross
In his new documentary "Planet Rock: The Story of Hip Hop and The Crack Generation", Ice-T examines the mutual history of hip hop and cocaine dealing. In the present, however, the former gangsta rapper asserts that the two worlds aren't nearly as intertwined as some artists would have you believe.
Speaking to Vh1.com about the doc, which will be a part of the network's Rock Doc series, Ice-T named Miami rapper Rick Ross as chief among rappers who feign drug affiliations where none exist.
"Rick Ross stole a niggas name," T says, referencing the notorious drug dealer "Freeway" Ricky Ross, a man he calls a personal friend. "He thinks he’s Rick Ross, he thinks he’s Larry Hoover, he thinks he’s Big Meech, he thinks he’s MC Hammer, he thinks he’s Tupac. Like, who the fuck are you really, dude?”
Ross, of course, has come under fire numerous times in the past for apparently fabricating in his rhymes, but the charges don't seem to have made him any less successful. According to Ice-T, a code that used to be in place within the rap community has been broken.
“You can tell kids these days any motherfuckin thing and they’ll believe it,” he laments. “There’s not a code of accountability in hip hop. When I came out, if you said it, you HAD to be about it. Nigga would check you really quickly.”
Shots fired, but why is everyone picking on Rick Ross?
