News: Queen Latifah Launches Film Production Company

The actress/ rapper/Cover Girl announced the launch of her new behind the scenes venture Flavor Unit Studios today, reports Deadline.com. The Miami-based production company will kick off with the feature film "Percentage", a crime drama starring Cam'Ron.

Percentage tells the story of two New York hustlers who  after a drug deal gone bad move to Miami to build a new empire in credit fraud.

The move seems like a natural transition for a trailblazer like Latifah, who built a highly successful career in Hollywood after breaking barriers in the hip-hop scene of the 1990s. From a bit part in Spike Lee's Jungle Fever to an Oscar nomination for her role in Chicago, Latifah pushed her way past convention into leading lady status.

Hopefully, with her calling the shots, there will be even more diversity at the multiplexes. Latifah's upcoming projects on the acting side include playing a choir director in the musical comedy Joyful Noise and reprising her role as Ellie in the animated film Ice Age: Continental Drift.

Now Jim Jones is saying that he and Cam'Ron are planning on working together on an upcoming "Fly Boys" LP, ahead of the highly anticipated Diplomats album.

"It's an album that we set out to do years ago when we first started The Diplomat movement and we was setting up the different albums that we was doing under Diplomat Records," said Jones. "Me and Cam was like, we gone do a fly boy album. We call ourselves the Fly Boys. I think we're pretty fly."

There's still no word on when either project, long-awaited Diplomat album or Fly Boys project, will be coming out.
