Artist On The Rise: Lyric

On The 6th Proudly Presents: Tami Roman's daughter Lyric. Lyric is a talented song writer/ singer and is about to take the world by storm. Tami Roman has two daughters who are both very talented at what they do, so If you've been watching "Basketball Wives" you've seen Lyric, but really get to know her. Take a minute and find out what all the buzz is about.

In her own words:

As hard as it is to believe, I have a hard time saying where I’m from, I’m originally from Los Angeles, but I’ve lived in NYC since I was 13. I like to say I’m from both cities, because I’ve learned and grown so much as a person on both coasts. I never want to discredit one city or the other, because they both have helped to make me a diverse and well-rounded individual.

I’ve always loved music.  When I was little I was always singing around the house. I would dress up and have mini concerts in my room and pretend I was Beyonce.

When I was really young, my main goal was to be a model and it still is something that I want to pursue. I started to become more serious about music when I was about 9 years old. I think my mother had a lot to do with it she was formerly in a singing group and always used to let me listen to the songs her group recorded. I think that’s when I decided that I actually wanted to pursue becoming a singer.

I think my proudest moment was getting accepted into the “Fame” school in NYC LaGuardia Arts. I was nervous at first, and wasn’t really sure what to expect. When I walked into the room, I just knew I had to sing my heart out. When I got the call that afternoon saying I had been accepted, it really was like a scene out of the movie "Fame". I was jumping around and screaming, I think I almost cried. Overall, the school itself has made me so much more diverse. It’s like a melting pot. You meet so many talented, creative, and outgoing people on a daily basis. I’ve become an even better artist by learning from others and gaining a deeper appreciation for all art, not just music.

There are the obvious goals such as I’d like to win at least one Grammy and a Songwriter’s Hall of Fame Award. Those are goals that I want to achieve as much as any artist. I think my most important goal is to be remembered and respected as an artist. Lady Jazz and I did a song together called “Spotlight”, and that’s really what it’s all about achieving your dreams and never being forgotten. I want to make music that inspires people and uplifts them. I’m not trying to be a “one hit wonder" I really want to have a career that lasts, because music means so much to me.

Sometimes I’m laid-back, other times I won’t stop talking. I laugh a lot, so I love being around funny people. I’m honest, I like to have fun, and I can be a little goofy at times. I think everyone should embrace who they are and accept their flaws. Realistically, there’s always something that you want to change about yourself. If I had to change anything, it would be the fact that I like to trust people easily. I like to take everyone for who they are at face value. Sometimes you have to have your guards up and know that not everyone is going to be real with you.

I know it sounds cliché, but my mother’s best advice has always been to believe in myself and put the work in. She always tells me that in order to be great, you have to work at it and practice.  I think that would be advice to others to dedicate themselves to the craft wholeheartedly and never give up.

How has life changed since being on reality tv?  I think the biggest change is that people respect me more as a person, because they know more about my life. A lot of times when people would find out that my dad is a former NBA player, they would automatically assume that I’m some rich, spoiled girl. Sometimes this would stop them from even getting to know me, because they thought I was going to be stuck-up. The show showed people that my family’s life wasn’t always about luxury and glamour; we have had tough times too. It has actually made more people open up to me and respect the things my family has gone through.

Right now, I'm actually writing a lot and in the studio recording. There will be a video for one of the songs within the next couple of months, so I'm excited for everyone to hear the music I've been working on.

Thanks very much!
