Remember the song "Make her feel good" it was one of the biggest hits of the year when Teairra Mari dropped her debut album. After a few set backs, 2012 looks like it's going to be a good year for the young singer/ actress. She's working on her highly anticipated sophomore album as well as her role on the hit VH1 show "Love & HipHop".
ThaEntertainer: So for the people out there who don't know who you are ? Give us a little background about yourself?
Teairra Mari: Well first and foremost, my name is Teairra Mari and I am a singer & actress born and raised in Detroit, MI. I've been singing since the age of 12 and I knew when I was a little girl that's all I wanted to do sing. I've been grinding ever since and I feel the best is yet to come.
ThaEntertainer: When did you get your start in the business? What was your very first project?
Teairra Mari: I started with working with Big Mike, Ed K and Helluvah of Detroit's K.I.S.S. Productions at the tender age of 12. Then when I was 16, I released an EP entitled" Get Away." It was a notable success in my hometown of Detroit which lead to an introduction with famed producer Daryl Simmons. Soon after, I sang for the execs at Def Jam and the rest is her-story! My debut album under Def Jam was "Roc-a-Fella Presents: Teairra Mari." That was an exciting time for me.
ThaEntertainer: After your debut album was released, what happened after that until now? I know you've been through a lot but there was a lot of rumors circulating? Anything you would like to clarify?
Teairra Mari: Well, I was released from Def Jam in 2006 and then I was offered a deal with Warner Brothers. When I was signed with Warner, I just felt that they didn't have my best interest at hand musically so ultimately, I asked to be released from my contract. At that point, I started to work on what I wanted regarding creativity in my next endeavor. That's when I hooked up with Rico Love and we started putting out singles along with mix-tapes.
ThaEntertainer: You've put out a lot of music and videos via world star hip hop. You have a strong fan base, how does that make you feel?
Teairra Mari: It makes me feel GREAT! To know that fans have stuck by me through my career endeavors and they were my biggest cheerleaders, besides my family who all warm up my heart. I owe it all to them.
ThaEntertainer: What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?
Teairra Mari: Proudest moment would be staying busy with my career; I didn't let life's situations deter me from what I loved to do sing. So I continued to record, put out mix tapes and just stay in the minds of my fans.
ThaEntertainer: What goals haven't you accomplished yet that plan on too?
Teairra Mari: Starting my own non-profit organization in my hometown of Detroit, MI- that's on the top of my list.
ThaEntertainer: Any regrets? anything you would do differently?
Teairra Mari: Regarding my career, no; it made me into the woman that I am today. However in my home life, I regret not telling my Grandmother repeatedly before she died how much I love and cherish her; That is something I wish I could change...
ThaEntertainer: Describe your personality? Is there anything you don't like about yourself that you wish you could change?
Teairra Mari: I'm a true Sagittarius- a FIRECRACKER! But I view myself as a sweet person and others have told me the same as well.
ThaEntertainer: What's the best advice anyone has ever given you, and what advice would you give others who are trying to do what your doing?
Teairra Mari: Best advice anyone has ever given me would be from my Grandmother which is "stay strong in your faith in God and stay PRAYED UP!" Regarding what advice I would give others who are pursuing a singing career- I would tell people to follow your heart and to remain strong and diligent.
ThaEntertainer: What are you currently working on?
Teairra Mari: I'm working on my new album slated to be released 1st quarter 2012. I signed a deal with Rico Love under Division 1 and I am SUPER excited! Rico Love is like my musical brother; we are so in sync when it comes to making music. The feel of the album is going to be "new jack swing" with an element of sensuality to it.
ThaEntertainer: If you were ever to be caught in a scandal what would it be and why?
Teairra Mari: WOW- Good question! Well I have an OBSESSION with Marilyn Monroe, so anything paralleling her life I would love to be a part of that era.....
