Rope by Timothy Ward Ingersoll

Ropes
“Blest be the ties that bind”
but what’s to bless?

Rough ropes burn hands
That tightly grip
With good intent
But cannot hold

weak knots bind tight
And pull us under
Where only blade
Can life restore

But bonds of beauty
Hold and free

As need and cause demand
A life is saved then saved again

By ties that bless

Afternoon Disco Break - MacArthur Park

OK - so the lyrics are ridiculous, but the classic disco beat coupled with Donna Summer's incredible voice makes this a true classic. I can remember the DJ playing MacArthur Park during my first Black Party, and the Queens when absolutely batshit insane on the dance floor - as did I.

Help A Bunny Out

DustBunny Kristen from Colorado has entered the Ro*Tel Across America Recipe Contest and needs our help.

For those of you unfamiliar with Ro*Tel, they make the diced tomatoes and chilies you mix with Velveeta to make delicious Queso.  My mother, who hails from West Texas, used to make this all the time when we had "company" (guests)...

OMG - I'm so hungry right now.  Anywhore - Kristen is currently in 2nd Place, and needs a push from the BunnyNation to try and get her over the top.  Unlike many of the other contestants who did vegetarian dishes, Kristen wasn't afraid to use meat in her dish (God bless her).  Here it is, Kristen's Ro*Tel Breakfast Braid...

Doesn't that look yummy?!?  Go HERE to vote - and do it NOW, because today is the last day.  FYI, in order to vote, you'll have to log into BookFace and "like" Ro*Tel - which is no big deal so VOTE NOW!!!

"Next Stop: Small Appliances. Stand Clear Of The Closing Doors..."

According to Gothamist, NYC's Metropolitan Transit Authority recently received $250,000 from Target to wrap some trains in big promotional Tarjay condoms.  At the same time, the perpetually broke MTA instituted their "doomsday" service cuts over the weekend - including cutting one of the trains that goes to my new neighborhood.

Why doesn't the MTA wrap ALL the trains in enormous prophylactics to help "plug their budget gap" (heh, heh...)??

Beautiful

Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful, for beauty is God's handwriting.

Lost Bunny ...

I certainly hope this Bunny finds an Arby's or something - he needs some meat on his bones!!

Featured Model - Edison Rivas

It's been WAY too long since we had some gorgeousness up in here, so to remedy that I present to you Edison Rivas.  He is 22 years-old and lives in the greatest city in the world - NYC.  You can check out his MySpace page HERE.

A Girl's Gotta Shop

Due to the recent rioting in Toronto, the Eaton Centre shopping mall (above) was forced to close to the public on at least one occasion - which infuriated the man in the video below.

Please keep in mind this one thing - NEVER get between a crazy queen with a credit card and the merchandise Miss Thang wishes to purchase.

80's Flashback - General Hospitale

NOTE:  I posted this video back in January, but I thought it would be appropriate to re-post today (with additional commentary).

For those of you who didn't watch "GH" (as we called it back then), this video will make absolutely no sense to you.  But if you happened to be a General Hospital fan back in the 80's, it will bring back lots of memories.

Side Note:  When I was a kid I had a paper route which required me to deliver newspapers after school (anyone remember EVENING newspapers?!?? - DAMN I'm old...).  But I was such a huge General Hospital fan that I would come home and watch GH first - and THEN deliver the newspapers.  This displeased many of the people on my route - especially the elderly - because they wanted their paper NOW (so they could read the Obituaries - seriously).  However, when one hires a gay Paperboy, one must realize that our priorities (watch fave soap opera, fix hair, deliver newspapers - in that order) are somewhat different than our straight counterparts (deliver newspapers, think about girls, play sports - in that order).

BTW - Since there is just an ever-so-slight possibility I may write some snarky things about my hospital visit, I've decided not to actually name the facility where I was treated.  From now on it will be referred to as "General Hospitale".

There's No Place Like Home ... There's No Place Like Home

Well THAT certainly wasn't fun...

Hello my darling DustBunnies!!!  I am friggin' HOME after 8 days in a Queens hospital battling pneumonia in both lungs.  There will be lots and lots more information to share and stories to tell, but that will have to wait for a little while longer.  Right now I have kitties to pet, Chinese takeout to order, and "1000+" blog posts to read on my Google Reader.

Besides, after 8 days of "truck stop whore baths" using paper towels/hand soap in the hospital bathroom, I need to get my stinky butt into the shower for a good long time.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for all the well wishes, blog comments, cards, texts, and phone calls.  And a special shout-out to Kayce for helping me communicate with everybody.  You all bring joy to my heart every day - and I truly mean that.

FYI:  for those of you who have my telephone number, I will not be picking up the phone tonight.  It's not that I don't love you like my luggage, but this Biatch needs to relax and enjoy the fact that no one is going to wake me up tonight and poke me with another needle.

>P,B!

more updates.

Hi everyone, it's Kayce again.  :))

I just spoke to David and he asked me to post another update to keep everyone informed, because the blog will be quiet for the rest of the week or so.

First, and most importantly, he's feeling MUCH BETTER!  The doctors did diagnose him with double-lung pneumonia, and instantly pumped him full of antibiotics.  David said he doesn't know exactly what kind of bacterium ass is being kicked, but he's sure that the infection is getting under control.  Between the drugs and Mama Bunny, all seems to be going well.  Needless to say, however, David is done with his regular doctor (the one who refused to x-ray him), which I was glad to hear.

David is still getting poked full of needles, and his breath is still short, but he said he can move around and do normal, "fun" things like work.  ;)  Now that David is on his way to healthy, The Nation needs to send healing prayers to his hospital television, because it doesn't work at all.  Between the broken television and lack of computer, David says he's not sure there IS a world outside the hospital walls until Mama Bunny brings the daily papers.  I told him I'd leave him a voicemail and let him know what happens on Top Chef.

Oh, and speaking of Top Chef:  there will likely be no posts at all this week.  They have to keep him in the hospital for a little while longer, and David is still unsure just how long that will be.  He did say that as soon as he's home, we'll know, because he's jonesing to get on the computer, LOL.

guest blogger comes bearing news.

Hello, Dust Bunny Nation:  Kayce here, by David's request...

David called me this afternoon from the Emergency Room.

Don't panic, he didn't have to go via ambulance or anything, but his breathing problem has gotten worse.  He told me that his doctor never did a chest x-ray, despite him asking for it more than once, and David has gotten more concerned as the days have gone by.  Although his doc was so sure that his chest was clear, because of his constant trouble breathing, David is pretty sure that he has pneumonia.  I guess the E.R. docs agree, because they are keeping him for "a day or two."

He asked me to post this short update letting The Nation know that he's OK, but that posting will be light for the next couple of days as he's in the hospital getting better.  Luckily, his new roommate has agreed to take care of Oscar and Dusty (David's main concerns, of course, LOL).  As you can imagine, David didn't go to the E.R. expecting to stay, so although he has his cell, he doesn't know when he's going to get his charger.  He wants to conserve his battery as much as possible, but I'm sure he'd like to hear from some of you nonetheless.  ;)

If he needs me to, I will post more updates; otherwise, expect the next post you see to be from David.

UPDATE:  [insert Superwoman theme song here] Mama Bunny to the rescue!  David wanted me to let everyone know that the amazing Mama Bunny is hopping (ha) onto a train tomorrow to go to NYC and take care of him.

Abandoned Palace In Lower Manhattan

The 10-story building at 5 Beekman Street in Lower Manhattan looks just like any number of old buildings located in the oldest part of the city.  However, the inside of the building reveals some exquisite ruins...

The building was bought in 2008 by developers who wanted to turn it into a luxury hotel (just what Manhattan needs!).  But the bank who holds the loan on the property recently filed to foreclose, so this neglected but gorgeous building interior will remain for a little while longer.

BTW - if anyone is looking to buy me a Christmas gift, this building would be perfect.  I would totally open a go-go guy bar under the skylights!!

Happy Father's Day To Papa Bunny!!!

Happy Father's Day to my beloved Dad (above).  I hope he has a chance to go fishing today - it's his favorite thing to do in the whole world.

Thanks for being the best father anyone could ever ask for.

Dirty Jim by Jane Taylor

THERE was one little Jim,
'Tis reported of him,
And must be to his lasting disgrace,
That he never was seen
With hands at all clean,
Nor yet ever clean was his face. . . .

His friends were much hurt
To see so much dirt,
And often they made him quite clean;
But all was in vain,
He got dirty again,
And not at all fit to be seen.

It gave him no pain
To hear them complain,
Nor his own dirty clothes to survey:
His indolent mind
No pleasure could find
In tidy and wholesome array.

The idle and bad,
Like this little lad,
May love dirty ways, to be sure;
But good boys are seen
To be decent and clean,
Although they are ever so poor.

The Republicans Are Not On Your Side

I don't normally like to copy and paste entire blog posts from other blogs - but this Daily Kos post by Laurence Lewis is only 3 paragraphs long and should be read by EVERYONE. Furthermore, Democrats need to be shouting "Republicans are not on your side!" from the highest hilltops, until it becomes accepted fact. Because it IS a fact...

The message is simple and easy, because it happens to be true. On issue after issue, the Republicans prove that they don't care about people, they only care about their corporate owners. Last week, they blocked an extension of unemployment benefits. This week, they killed it. They also ensured a pay cut to doctors who accept Medicare patients, ensuring that fewer doctors will, and that those on Medicare will have more trouble finding medical care. But while they've been busy hurting people, they've also been busy helping corporations
With the BP oil gusher destroying the Gulf of Mexico, Republicans are having to pretend not to bedefending BP. Meanwhile, they're criticizing President Obama for trying to protect people from BP. It's always the same. They protected the banks from financial regulation. They protected the health insurance industry from real health care reform. They killed cramdown, which would have protected homeowners from losing their homes. The list goes on and on. Issue after issue. Year after year.
When have the Republicans supported legislation that helps people at the expense of corporate special interests? When have they proposed such legislation, on their own? Don't hurt yourself trying to find examples. They're rhetorical questions.

Please go to the post HERE, where Laurence Lewis has all the links to back up his main points.  Important stuff.

A Man Walks Into A Bar ...

A man walks into a bar and says, "Give me a beer before problems start!"

After finishing his first beer, the man again orders a beer again by saying,
"Give me a beer before problems start!"

The bartender looks confused.

This goes on for a while, and after the fifth beer the bartender walks up to the man.

"When are you going to pay for these beers?", the bartender asks.

The man answers, "Ah, now the problems start!"
