Bastogne, Belgium, nineteen forty-four,
German panzers are knocking on the door.
The screaming eagles are dug in,
saying thus far but no more. The little town is under a blanket of white.
Thank God for covering an awful sight,
of ill fated paratroopers
thrown into the fight. Under a flag of truce German officers came,
and wanted to know the General's name.
The Germans stated our position could not be worse.
They offered to take surrender of the 101st. Their General was notified with no hesitation.
The General said, without reservations,
"No ands, ifs, or buts"
"The answer is simply Nuts"
