Hot Dog Drama

The annual Nathan's Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest was held today in Coney Island - and was again mired in controversy. As if we didn't already have enough Wiener Drama here in NYC.

Joey "Jaws" Chestnut won his fifth straight Mustard Belt by chowing down 62 dogs in 10 minutes - while Sonia "Black Widow" Thomas won the first ever Women's Division "Pepto Bismol Belt" by eating 40 dogs.

But back in Manhattan, former champ and competitive eating renegade Takeru Kobayashi (below) allegedly consumed 69 hot dogs at an unsanctioned even on some rooftoop. Kobayashi was ineligible to compete in the official contest because he refuses to sign an exclusive contract with Major League Eating.

And YES, this does sound like a post from The Onion but it's actually the real thing. We take our wieners (and our winners) very seriously here in NYC.

These "Caption This" contest are getting harder and harder to judge because you Bunnies are always so damn funny and clever. But I must pick only one lucky recipient of the coveted (?) DustBunny of the Day award - and the winner is...

Having not learned her lesson 40 years ago, Violet Beauregard returned to the Chocolate Factory and scarfed down the untested "Ass Backwards Candy," with tragic results.

I Are The Champions !

That's right, Biatches - I won MikeInBama's College Football Pick 'Em Challenge! Unfortunately my win doesn't entitle me to anything besides bragging rights - so my ass is gonna brag a little bit ...

Mike does this football challenge every year, and invites his blogger buddies to join. It's all done through ESPN.com - where they post 10 college football games each week, and the contest participants pick the winners. No over/under/point spreads - thank goodness, 'cause I have no idea what that is.

So all you have to do is pick the winner of 10 games each week. And usually I do pretty well until about mid-way through the 14-week challenge. But this year I ended up LEADING mid-way, when in the past I had crashed and burned.

This prompted me to start doing some homework and a little research on each week's team matchups. Previously, I just went down the list and picked - sometimes at random. The only rules I had were that I ALWAYS picked Penn State (my alma mater) to win, and Notre Dame and Pitt to lose. Always - even if the odds were against me.

This strategy, plus some dumb luck and a (very) little bit of knowledge did the trick - after 14 weeks I have been crowned the winner. See the results HERE.

Football Season Is Almost Here

Wiener Drama!

Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest is VERY New York - loud, brash, self-important, and more than a little bit insane.  Every July 4th at "high noon", a group of gluttons for punishment professional eaters compete to see who can stuff the most hot dogs down their gullet in 10 minutes.  Local guy Joey Chestnut (below), won again this year - consuming 54 delicious Nathan's hot dogs.

This year there was a bit of an Escándalo de la Wieners, when six-time champ Takeru "Tsunami" Kobayashi (below) was arrested after trying to bumrush the stage.  Kobayashi - who was wearing a "Free Kobi" shirt - did not compete this year due to a contract dispute.

WHO KNEW there could be so much drama and intrigue surrounding a bunch of guys shoving wieners in their mouths?!?

Help A Bunny Out

DustBunny Kristen from Colorado has entered the Ro*Tel Across America Recipe Contest and needs our help.

For those of you unfamiliar with Ro*Tel, they make the diced tomatoes and chilies you mix with Velveeta to make delicious Queso.  My mother, who hails from West Texas, used to make this all the time when we had "company" (guests)...

OMG - I'm so hungry right now.  Anywhore - Kristen is currently in 2nd Place, and needs a push from the BunnyNation to try and get her over the top.  Unlike many of the other contestants who did vegetarian dishes, Kristen wasn't afraid to use meat in her dish (God bless her).  Here it is, Kristen's Ro*Tel Breakfast Braid...

Amber LeMay Is Such a Doll

Darling DustBunny Amber LeMay needs our help - she is trying to become a Bobblehead for a baseball team.  Now get your minds out of the gutter, biatches.

The Vermont Lake Monsters minor league baseball team is having a contest.  They are looking for a Vermonter to immortalize in plastic and turn into a Bobblehead doll, which will be given out at their stadium on August 27th.  How cool would it be for that Bobblehead to be sporting a wig and tasteful jewelry?!?

Amber LeMay is one of the founders of Vermont's premiere drag troupe - the House of LeMay.  So she definitely satisfies the requirement that the winner have ties to Vermont.  In fact, I'd bet Amber has tied up quite a few (male) Vermonters.  And I'm sure the liquor store clerks in Amber's hometown of Beaver Pond will vouch for her DEEP commitment to the community.
