Future Bears of America

At my high school we had a "Future Farmers of America" club, but nothing like this. A "Beard Club" has formed at a high school in Ohio ...
A dozen students have joined, they said, with two male teachers -- both bearded, of course -- serving as advisers. Under a mission statement that emphasizes spreading 'beard awareness and hygiene throughout the school community,' future topics include the history and care of beards, and grooming products. 'Lumberjacks are our icons,' Cole said.
And apparently this isn't the only school with a Beard Club. Read the story from Towleroad HERE.

Now that I think about it, we COULD have had a "Beard Club" at my high school - but its membership would have consisted of the butch gals from the Field Hockey team - most of whom had more facial hair than the boys.

Teammates Abuse David Beckham's Ass

David Beckham's teammate were seen touching his ass "for good luck" after Becks scored his first goal last weekend for his temporary team AC Milan. Apparently it's an Italian thing.

Hollywood Heartthrob Dies ... In The Closet

Van Johnson - a Hollywood heartthrob from the 40's and 50's, died over the weekend. According to Towleroad, none of the traditional media outlets reported what was/is widely known: Johnson lived his life in the closet. Read the story (including details of Johnson's "arranged marriage") HERE.

Daddy Of The Day - Jeremy Santucci

Jeremy Santucci is a male model - and he is an out and proud gay man. Or at least I think he is. When Towleroad posted his pictures last week (HERE), they included a link to his MySpace page where he listed his sexual orientation as "gay". However, that MySpace page has mysteriously been taken down. Hmmmm?...

From Daddy of the Day to Big Brother

Jessie Godderz, former Daddy of the Day, will be one of the houseguests on this summer's Big Brother - along with a gay cowboy. See story from Towleroad here.

Return Of The Roxy?

Towleroad reported yesterday that NYC gay megaclub The Roxy might re-open. It closed last year and was supposed to be demolished to make way for condos. But apparently even MANHATTAN real estate is in a slump. Read the story here.

I LOVED The Roxy. Before I even moved here, I would take weekend trips from PA to NYC – and Saturday nights were ALL about the Roxy. And when I finally did move to NYC, I went almost every weekend.

Over the years, I saw performances by Chaka Khan, Gloria Gaynor, Cher, and Madonna (where I got a glimpse of Boy George and freaked out). I saw a totally wasted Calvin Klein picking up a go-go boy (something I saw him do in MORE THAN ONE bar!). Writer Michael Musto – one of my earliest gay heroes – was also there every Saturday, although I was always too chicken-shit to talk to him. Roxy doorman Derek always let me bypass the line, and Cathy (the head bartender) always made sure my drinks were strong and quick. It was always a good time.

Perhaps the most unique thing about my Roxy experience was the method by which my friends and I would find each other. The Roxy is an old roller skating rink, with the oval-shaped “rink” acting as a huge dance floor. The whole way around the oval was a walk way, allowing you to literally walk in circles (actually, ovals) all night. When I was there, I always walked in a “clockwise” direction – ALWAYS. When someone wanted to find me, they would walk “counter-clockwise” and eventually we’d meet. It was a foolproof system that was so effective it made us giggle.

Back when I was REALLY young and reckless, when the Roxy would close at 4:00 or 5:00 am, we would head 10 blocks north to the old Sound Factory and listen to DJ Junior Vasquez spin until the next afternoon. THOSE were the days…

The Opposite of Pride = HATE

Neal Anthony of McMinnville, Tennessee has been a target of anti-gay attacks on his home for the past 13 months. The attacks continued recently (story from Towleroad):

"Vandals sprayed and splattered hate-filled words on his property Friday morning. Anthony said it's because of his sexuality. 'I'm not out there in my yard running naked, or being with my partner doing all these sex acts or anything like that,' said Anthony. Virtually every square foot of the property is within camera range, but this spray paint assault went undetected. The vandals cut the lines to Anthony's cameras, security lights, landscape lights and even severed power to the main house and his phone line. Anthony said this is the ninth assault on his property and he fears the attack might escalate from personal possessions to people. The suspected vandals also spray painted "Dorothy's in Hell' referring to Neal's mother, who passed away in December."

This is some scary shit. He lives out in the middle of nowhere, and someone comes and cuts the power to his property as well as his phone line. He could have been killed and no one would have known. This kind of thing makes ME want to hurt people!...

I realize this is not just a Tennessee thing, or even a southern thing – it’s an IGNORANT ASSHOLE REDNECK COUSIN-FUCKING DIRT-EATING MORON THING. This same thing could have just as easily happened where I grew up (in Central PA) or almost anywhere in rural America. Disgusting.

And the Republicans think we don’t need laws to help prevent gay-bashing and other hate crimes. Furthermore, they don’t even think that teaching TOLERANCE toward gay people is acceptable. So very Christian of them. Again, disgusting.

White Meat Monday Closet Case Couple

Former N-Sync member JC Chasez and Gossip Girl actor Chace Crawford have been seen "hanging out" a lot lately. And I mean A LOT. Last night they were together at Elton John's Oscar bash. I'm sure they are just "really good friends"...
