I'm Back ... I Think ...

I just had a really adorable kid reinstall Windows on my laptop - so I think I'm back in business. However, I lost ALL my pictures - including personal ones - so I'm a little bummed. But I must say, I'm happy to have internet access again.

I will still be laying kinda low this weekend so I can get caught up.

Minimal Blogging This Weekend

My roommate's extremely computer-knowledgeable friend looked at my laptop last night - and things don't look good. He wasn't even able to start from scratch and reinstall Windows.

At this point it looks like I need to buy a new computer. But I also need to pay rent, eat, and have electricity - so that could take quite a while. This does NOT make me happy ... in fact, I am just sick about it.

I'll try to keep "Bootleg Blogging" as much as I can - but not much until Monday.

Not Looking Good...

It seems my computer is pretty infected - and there is no telling when blogging will resume on DavidDust. I know in the grand scheme of things that "computer drama" is low on the totem pole of life's hardships - but that doesn't stop me from being absolutely miserable.

While this is going on, I will check in as much as I can while here at work.

It Never Fails...

Just when things seems to be going well, the shit comes crashing down around me. I finished my report-from-Hell at work, and the numbers weren't bad at all. I had a fabulous weekend with the Dust Bunnies. I was happy.

And then last night my computer became seriously infected with some nasty spyware - and it is unusable. The last time something similar happened, my roommate was able to do a System Restore and get it to work again. I can't get it to do anything - the spyware has shut down my security software and disabled pretty much everything. My screen-saver has been replaced by a big WARNING sign, followed by a message in extremely bad English about how my computer is infected and it could "harm my life!". I am afraid that this time I have lost everything - including hundreds of hottie and funny pictures which took untold hours to collect - as well as all my DDBW and other personal pictures. And no, I didn't backup anything because I'm a fucking moron and don't know how. I'm like those pitiful bitches from The Fashion NO who can't use a sewing machine - I'm a Blogger who's not very good at using a computer.

So, once again, I will be scarce here in Blogville until I can figure out what to do. Taking my computer to a professional is out of the question at this point - I need to focus on getting caught up on my rent/bills right now.

I will do what I can from my work computer (after-hours, of course) ... but I probably won't be around much for a while. And unfortunately I'll only be able to moderate your comments during regular business hours when I'm at work.

And of course this happens at a time when DavidDust is really building momentum. Yesterday I had a RECORD number of page views (7057), unique visitors (4,581), and returning visitors (610). Like I said, it never, EVER, fucking fails...

It's A Miracle!

My roommate tinkered with "my" computer today, and by the time I came home it was fixed (complete with new anti-virus software)! And not only is it working properly (knock on wood), I didn't lose any data - including the hottie pics a computer tech told me I would lose if he fixed it.

So I should be ecstatic, right?!? Well, I am excited to have access to a working computer again. But the Sweet Baby Jeebus giveth, and the Sweet Baby Jeebus taketh away. Shortly after I got to my apartment this evening, I developed a SEVERE toothache. So severe, that I considered going to the emergency room to get something for the pain. But I went to the drugstore and got some Orajel - and I've taken handfuls of Tylenol and Advil - and it's a little better.


So posting will be limited tonight - because I need to lay down. Thank you all so much for your kind words and good wishes. I love you bitches - I really do.

Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so destitute that I don't even own a computer (I make all this blogging magic happen on other people's equipment). But I am fortunate enough to have access to my roommate's old laptop - which has worked great for me until this weekend.

I noticed a day or so ago that this old Dell seemed to REALLY be slowing down. By this morning, it had slowed to a crawl - and even accessing my comments took forever. I swear to God, I was so frustrated that I was ready to throw this bitch out the window and take a long break from blogging - because there is no way I can buy a new computer. But I restrained myself.

Another strike against me as a Blogger is the fact that I have very limited computer knowledge. I can hunt down and post pics of hotties - and that's about it. But I DID happen to notice a little icon on the lower right side of the screen (on the taskbar thingy) that I didn't recognize. After HOURS of trying, I was able to remove whatever it was.

Thank the Baby Jeebus, it seemed to work. Although everything is bigger on the screen now - which I can deal with. And for some reason my cursor is now a friggin' seashell. Again, no reason to throw the computer away.... Yet.
