In Their Own Words: RAZ-B

A lot has been said and talked about Raz-B in the recent months. More negative then positive yet sadly nothing about music. Did you know that he dropped an album called "Follow my lead?" People hear the rumors and spread them like wild fire. Is this the price one has to pay to be an artist trying to do music? Take a moment and get to know the real Raz-B.

On The 6th proudly presents RAZ-B: In his own words

I'm DeMario Monte Thornton a.k.a Raz B, former member of the multi platinum group, B2K. I'm more laid back then what people see. I like to do fun stuff; amusement parks, bowling, shooting pool, movies. I'm a regular person, but on stage, I'm energetic and nothing bothers me.

I stand for truth and equality for all. The biggest misconception about me is that I am gay. As a black man who is familiar with our history, I don't think it is right to oppress another group of people. My publicist is gay and I love her. I will forever support the gay community, despite people ridiculing me for doing so.

Being in the game for over 10 years now, I've learned a lot. I'm a fighter, there are people that don't want to see me succeed. They spread lies about me, print wrong and evil things about me as fact when it is the furthest thing from the truth. God protects me, He wakes me up each day to keep fighting the good fight. I speak for those who can't speak for themselves, it may take a while but I believe good will prevail.

I'm interested in understanding the universe, life, and why people do the things that they do.
My ultimate goal in life is to help people see the truth; about life, this industry, themselves.

The negativity from the media does effect me, I'm human. Some people would rather be ignorant and help spread the most evil things about me. No one even fact checks anymore, they don't even use common sense anymore. They bullied Jesus, they bullied Michael Jackson, and they're bulling me. So even in my worst moments, I walk amongst great company.

What I like most about being in the business is the ability to connect with people on a large scale.
My thought process behind my work varies, I have some music that is fun and about women and the chase, some that are deeper and reflect what I'm feeling at the time. I'm a Gemini, it all depends on which twin is speaking.

What inspires and motivates me is that Life, both the good and the bad. I know what is in my heart and what I stand for. Despite the obstacles I remain true to myself and to God. I'm inspired to use my voice to make life better for others even if it's been difficult for me at times.

Life's changed for me since B2K broke up. We broke up at the height of our career, It's been a very interesting journey to say the least. It's a humbling experience on the way back up.

What would I be doing now, if I never started doing music?
I'd still have the entrepreneurial spirit, I'd be in the entertainment business regardless, just playing more of an executive role.

I've been listening to Britney Spears, Jason Derulo, Ke$ha, T-Pain, Sade, Eminem, 50 Cent, just to name a few. I'm constantly inspired to make good music and the different styles of each artist inspire different elements of who I am.
My favorite job I've done so far is being a voice for those that cannot speak.
I have a lot of projects in the works currently, films, books, and definitely more music. I've been on tour in China since the beginning of the year.

Any advice, I'd give to those looking to pursue their dreams?
If it is something that you really want to do, fight for it with all you've got up until the very end. If it were easy, everyone would do it. Don't compromise your integrity for anything. Learn from my mistakes, speak out sooner when people are doing wrong by you. Most importantly stay true to yourself, all that glitters ain't gold.

I want to be remembered as someone who fought for what's right even when the people he's fighting for turn their back on him. Injustice is wrong all the time, I will continue to fight for what is right.

I would like the world to know that I am humbled by love. Nothing about my life is easy, I am a human being, with feelings, I may have not always been politically correct, and I may not always do things in the best manner, but my heart is always in the right place and even if my life is on the line I will forever stand for the truth and for what is right.
