Artist On The Rise: WASI
On The 6th Presents Artist On The Rise: Wasi
Wasi raps about life on the streets, the ups the downs and everything in between. Not only does he rap, he also writes and is working on a novel. Take a minute and get to know Wasi a little better.
In his own words:
I'm and up coming recording artist and author.
I wrote my first rap song when I was ten years old. I was picked up by Ruff House records as a kid, but they felt i that rapped too grown for my age. They played me music from Kriss Kross and asked if i could sound more like them.
It wasn't appealing to me and I couldn't relate. They still wanted to sign me but i was under age and my mother refused to sign the contract. She wanted me to focus more on school and basically thought the "rap career" was just some hobby.
I had this dream of being successful with music, it also serves as my therapy. I write music of various genres. When I'm doing my own music i write nothing down. It goes straight from my heart to my head, out my mouth and into the mic.
Some of my great experiences so far was one opening up for Wyclef at Bay side. The crowd was huge! I also opened up for DasEfx after winning a competition to do a song with Mother Superior in Tampa.
Also before being famous Dj Khaled he used to spin me heavy when he was on Mix96. I've also sold thousands of Cd's hand to hand in the streets of Miami. A combination of my music and past lifestyle in the streets got my name well known in South Miami.
A goal of mines is to complete my book "The Trap" and get it published.
Something I wish I would have done was gotten written contractual agreements from my former label Fortknocks ENT. I feel betrayed by them and used as well. I thought we were a "family" and that it was all about love and loyalty. They basically turned there backs on me, and left me to tread the mill all alone.
With time I have changed A lot. I'm still very hot headed, but I left most of my past street life alone, and grew closer to God. I'm trying my best to make an honest living and be done with the "Trap life". I regret taking so long to make these changes and racking up 29 felony convictions.
Advice I give others is make your trust hard to earn! Get written agreements, don't fall for the handshakes and talk. Don't allow others to use you. ALWAYS be yourself and never let anyone change you into something else. If you feel like things aren't right, hide your feelings and do what you need too to change and or fix the situation.
I'm currently working on my new album "Realer than most", and my book "The Trap". I gotta get my name back out there. So look out for me cause I'm on my way.
