
I read in the New York Times yesterday that a middle school in Colorado has banned the wearing of jelly bracelets in school because of their "sexual connotations".
Apparently, each color of the bracelets has a specific sexual meaning - although those meanings can vary from place to place. There are even WEBSITES devoted to this phenomenon - although a few of the sites say that this is more of an urban myth than anything else.

These bracelets totally remind me of the legendary gay "hanky codes" from the 70's and 80's - whereas some men (and women) used various colored bandannas to advertise what they were "into". After all, Craigslist hadn't been invented yet...

I never thought, however, that middle school kids would adopt something similar.
